Passamaquoddy Bay - The Music

What's On the CD?

A compilation of 19 tunes contributed by six artists from Maine, the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and New Brunswick musically tells the story of Save Passamaquoddy Bay. The CD was professionally mastered by Castlebay.

The Artists

  • Rolfe Richter, of Sipayik/Pleasant Point is a Passamaquoddy tribal member who defines himself as a flute storyteller. His gentle music tells the wonderful story of Mother Earth and her creatures. Rolfe’s quiet flute melodies do great honor to his homeland and Passamaquoddy Bay.

  • Doug Beaver, of Eastport, Maine, composed the song that has become the iconic story of our efforts. “Dollars” encompasses the story of greed and threats and then brings forth the hope and resolve that comes when people join together to work for an important cause.

  • Ruth Dunfield, of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, writes touching numbers about the beauty and abundance of Passamaquoddy Bay. A daughter of the sea herself, Ruth’s songs inspire all who hear them. www.ruthdunfield.com

  • Gary Cook, of Campobello Island, New Brunswick, has followed generations of his family who have loved and worked on the water. Gary knows the challenges of the fishery as well as the bureaucratic overlays on the industry placed by government rules and outside interventions and his music reflects this.

  • Fred Gosbee and Julia Lane, together known as Castlebay of Round Pond, Maine, are frequent visitors to the Passamaquoddy Bay area. For two decades, Julia and Fred have researched, collected, composed, and performed music and songs that connect Coastal Maine with their Celtic heritage. www.castlebay.net
